POETRY

                                                  A FAREWELL SONG

It’s so quiet here,

So pleasant,so sweet.

The air seems to be charged with

Emotions that are about to sweep.

Throats are choking,

Tears have started gathering

In the corners of our eyes

And we’re going to weep.

Why is it so?

Oh! Is it so difficult to explain.

But I’m sure

This bond of ours

Isn’t new at all and not so fragile

That we’ve to fear

Any sort of breaking.

It’s grown all these years,

Ever since we met, nourishing

Upon sublime feelings.

We’ve taken every care

To nurture and protect it

From all evil eyes

That might fall upon it.

We feared sometimes,I agree

But haven’t we braved the world at other times?

Sometimes we made a fool of each other,

At other times

We felt like angels and fairies.

Did we try to hide

From each others’ eyes?

It’s only to find ourselves torn and lonely.

If at times we also frowned

The very next moment

We felt miserable and mean.

Such and such were the sweet punishments

That we inflicted upon each other in vain.

Then we laughed at our follies

And then smiled

Stretching our lips from ear to ear

Turning all over pink

Till drops of tears

Rolled down the cheeks.

Yet not knowing

Whether we were really laughing

Or crying!

Perhaps we were doing both

At the same time.

Pity us! O God!

We’re such miserable beings.

These

And many more such games

Served only to strengthen our tie

Far from weakening it.
